Review: Ewiges Feur – ‘New Dark Beat’ (dark electro)

Today we cross the Atlantic ocean and travel to Finland to check out a four track, EP by the dark electronic act, Ewiges Feur.

Let me get the selfish reason why I enjoyed this release. It took me back to the late 90s when I was doing music myself and I can recall programming the synth lines along with the drums. But over-all, the EP does tend to take us back to the “good old days” of the electro sounds of Scandanavia where the sounds were largely analog. Fortunately, Ewiges Feur manages to maintain a certain purity in that sound but combining it with a modern angle close to synthwave and even moments of goth rock (such as in the track “Kuumeuni (Fever Dream)”

There are no vocals to this release which allows us to enjoy the music for what it is. That in and of itself adds to the feeling of nostalgia and a preservation of the sounds of the mid-late 90s. They even incorporate a voice sample in the final track, “Neur Dunkler Beat”. That inclusion of voice samples is a lost art. The title of the track is obviously in German which is appropriate because the music is somewhat reminiscent of German acts like Plastic Noise Experience

There’s not a TON more that can be said considering it’s a short release of just four tracks. However, we can say that it’s consistent, nostalgic, to the point and really enjoyable for those who want a trip back in time with a little modern touch. I like the way the artist manages to preserve this type of sound in a world that so often yields track of distorted vocals and the same 4 on the floor type beats. I’m looking forward to hearing what they come up with next.
