From our friends at Transcending Obscurity comes a dose of Swedish death metal both both extreme in fury and insanely skilled.
From Bandcamp: “They’re not here to reinvent but to solidify in every imaginable way. The album is faultless – it’s got everything the style needs and in the right doses. The production keeps it delectable and the gnarly artwork by the master artist Costin Chioreanu only brings to life their twisted yet meticulous music.”
Remember the magic created by Swedish death metal landmarks such as Dismember’s Like An Everflowing Stream and Entombed’s Left Hand Path? That trademark sound still exists, thankfully by the likes of bands like Feral. Now given proper recognition by Transcending Obscurity Records, we look toward their new release, Flesh For Funerals Eternal.
The album contains 10 solid cuts that take the traditional Swedish death metal sound (characterized of course by the down-tuned guitars and insanely addictive grooves). Feral doesn’t necessarily smash open new ground. But what we should be thankful for is the fact they are keeping the sound we grew up on alive. A track like “Stygian Void” does implement some interesting back-and-forth dueling between the drums and guitars. Tracks like “Gathering Their Bones” are every bit as addictive of a listen as “Override the Overture” (Dismember) or “Morbid Devourment” from Entombed.
The sound created by bands like Feral almost creates a unique wall of noise that captures the listener into the fury and firestorm of riffs that is Flesh For Funerals Eternal.
