NDE – “United (Through Iron And Blood)” Album Review (noise/hnw/power electronics) Cold Spring Records

NDE United - Lo res album cover for webAlbums like this start wars and inspire the unthinkable.

United is the latest slab of sonic abrasion courtesy of NDE on Cold Spring Records.

From Cold Spring: “United (Through Iron And Blood)” is NDE’s third album and sees a return to the harsher sounds of their debut, “Krieg Blut Ehre Asche”. Deranged Black Metal vocals over uncompromising, blood-soaked death industrial, rhythmic power noise, and claustrophobic power electronics.”

NDE is a mysterious Belgian act consisting of 2 members. The music is a mix of elements of Black Metal, Martial percussion and Death Industrial with heavily distorted vocals.

United is filled with relentless distorted screams the likes of which would make dream-possessing demons jealous.

These nine unnamed tracks on United are unkind to say the least.

The foundation of United is often based upon over-driven, rapid, repetitive bass lines and heavy, apocalyptic strikes giving the sense of slow-crushing avalanches.  Atop the foundation are static-soaked weapons of sound designed to pulverize the brain and punish the eardrums.  “Relentless” is far too kind of a word to describe the material on United.

Indeed this is a noise-based album but not in a traditional sense.  In the case of United, what we have is a guided, focused, weapon of warfare instead of a harsh noise wall just allowed to flow.  This would be the sonic equivalent of the government manipulating the harshest weather conditions at the expense of its citizens’ ear drums.  Furthermore, the vocals are performed and mixed in such a manner that they are effectively weaved in and out leaving them at varying degrees of discern-ability.  At moments they blend right in with the static violence and at others, they are heard above it.  For the purpose of this release, they are essentially utilized as another tool of violence.

If the world was ending and you were in the middle of the battlefield, United would likely be the soundtrack you’d be hearing.

For devotees of Trepaneringsritualen, Propergol, Navicon Torture Technologies, Genocide Organ.

United is available on CD and as a digital download.
